UNDERSTANDING GENESIS 1:26-27 pt 2 In the previous post we learnt that Genesis 1:26-27 establishes plurality of person within God. The fact that God created two distinct persons as male and female rather than just one man, is part of out being in the image of God because this can be seen to to some degree the plurality of person within the God. Here we intend to give exegetical basis why we think this is so. Let Us--- The speaker must be equal to the one being addressed. The speaker obviously is God. The other He is speaking to must be of the same nature, essence and substance because He includes Himself in being equal as the source if creating. The words image and likeness are attached to the plural pronoun our and us. So the speaker and the one addressed are of the same image. Remember that during that period there was no creature in existence. Only God existed and began creation. No creature could have been in the image resembling that of God. No finite and created being and God can constitute to have a single image or likeness our in which He intends to create something in. Gen. 1:27 verifies all this by saying So God created man in HIS OWN image The two who was in agreement to create mankind are the one God in the image of whom man was created. Create----. The work of creation becomes the work that both are doing and are credited with. One of them is said to be the ONLY Creator (Isaiah 44:24, 45:12, 48:13) whiles one other is also said to be one through whom all things came in to existence (Jn 1:3, 10, Colossains 1:16, Heb 1:3, 10). Man---- The thing they are about to create is purely singular (man not men) but in two distinct persons namely male and female and if this should be in the likeness of God, then God as singular also exists in plural persons. LET US CREATE MAN IN OUR IMAGE.
