UNIVERSAL THROTTLE CONTROL for electric powered tether cars. George and I (mostly George) just finished developing, and testing a prototype throttle control unit that will be available to anyone who wants to play around with an electric powered tether car. This unit is very similar to the one that we use in the Vector, and eliminates the need to use radio control to bring the car up to speed at a controlled rate. Several different rates of acceleration will be able to be set at the track by changing switches on the unit. The unit also has a switch to vary the run time from approximately 45 seconds to 3 minutes. An input is provided for the addition of a mechanical safety shut off which can use either a regular switch, or a photoelectric sensor. There is one switch position that limits the top speed to a part throttle condition. This is useful for initial test runs of a new design. Power for the throttle control can be provided by the motor controllers BEC, or from an external source. We have just placed an order with our circuit board manufacturer for a small production run. Based on their delivery schedule, we should be able to have the first units available around the first of May. Final pricing has not yet been determined, but a target price of $50.00 looks to be realistic.
