UNRULY elements who may want to take advantage of the Hibiscus Festival to carry out their acts have been warned by the police that they will face the full brunt of the law if caught. The Hibiscus Festival in Suva, which is the largest staged in the country, is also a melting pot of social interaction for people from all walks of life. Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the Fiji Police Force was committed to seeing that unscrupulous individuals do not get their way and upset people who were sincerely participating and enjoying a fundraising event that helped so many lives in Suva. "The force will also have a booth at Albert Park where members of the public are welcome to seek assistance or guidance should they encounter problems at the festival," he said. "The booth will also offer information on the various services the force provides to the nation." Insp Sokomuri said the police would also provide security to residences in the Southern Division as thousands are drawn to Albert Park to witness the mother of all festivals. He said police were co-ordinating their operations because of several events that would take place such as the Tadra Kahani, Deans final and the festival itself. "Police want the public to enjoy the festival and interact freely with people from other communities and support the festival by helping raise funds for worthy causes," he said.
