UNSETTLED WEATHER MOVING IN: Situation: Good morning, a rather mild start to the day after the recent frosts and sub-zero temperatures! Conditions will be relatively warm for this time of year due to the northerly airflow. It will however stay mostly cloudy and there is a risk of some showers at times especially Christchurch south into the afternoon. Christchurch City: Cloudy skies with the risk of a shower or two into the afternoon. Winds will be mostly light from the north. High of 16 degrees. Kaikoura: High cloud will thicken into the afternoon. Winds will freshen about the coast from mid-morning. Pleasant high of 16 degrees. North Canterbury: Mostly cloudy with light winds. Will remain fairly mild- high of 15 degrees. Low risk of an afternoon shower Mid Canterbury: Mostly cloud start to the day, from midday expect the odd shower. High of 15 degrees. Banks Peninsula: Mostly cloudy with the occasional sunny spell. From midday cloud will develop and there is a low risk of a shower or two. Winds will be fresh at times from the north. High of 15 degrees. South Canterbury: Mostly cloudy start to the day by early afternoon expect some rain. Winds will be fresh at times from the north. High of 16 degrees. Mountain forecast. High freezing levels (2500m +) not an ideal start for the ski fields. Rain will develop near the divide and expect spill over rain into the afternoon to reach the eastern foothills. Winds will be string about the tops from the NW. Outlook: Slightly unsettled, but we do say goodbye to the frosts. Friday looks mainly dry in North Canterbury but south of Christchurch we expect periods of rain. Into the weekend it looks rather messy with rain developing in the north. There is the potential for some heavy falls during Sunday about North Canterbury. As we took a sneaky look forward to next week it looks very unsettled with rain and cold temperatures. Have a great day and Josh will be back tonight with all the latest. - Russ
