UNVEILING THE GURKHA STATUE On 3rd December 1997, HM The Queen accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales unveiled the Gurkha Statue on Horse Guards Avenue, Whitehall, London. The statue erected by The Gurkha Brigade Association and sculpted by Philip Jackson is a permanent memorial of Gurkha service to the Nation. The bronze statue, based on a six-foot high figure sculpted by Richard Goulden in 1924 is one and a half times life size and stands on a Portland stone plinth. On the principal face under crossed kukris are engraved the words. The Gurkha Soldier, Bravest of the brave, most generous of the generous, never had Country more faithful friends than you.
