UPDATE: Hattie is still in PICU and on dialysis. She also still has 0% kidney function. They are going to change her dialysis from continuous to intermittent. The continuous is gentler on her body, but the intermittent will allow her to be extubated and for us to hold her. Her disease/virus is still active so they arent expecting kidney function to return right at this time. Her labs tomorrow will determine when her next dialysis will be. She will also be getting another blood transfusion today. Here are the good things: The dialysis is doing its job. When we were admitted they told us she could die and now they expect her survive. Some of her labs that could cause heart issues have come down so that is no longer a concern at this time. We are still praying that her kidney function will return. That could take days, weeks, months or it could not and then she would need a transplant. That is way down the road and not being considered at this point. Since the dialysis is effectively doing what her kidneys cannot, we are able to give her body time to recover and try to regain kidney function. Please pray that her little body will tolerate being extubated. We are told she will be uncomfortable and agitated while she is being weaned from some meds in order to extubate. We are praying for comfort for her. This will likely start happening this afternoon. We will let you know how she tolerates and if there are any specific prayer requests during that time.
