UPDATE ON COLTON BEASLEY, A BBQ BENEFIT WILL BE HELDED SUNDAY, MARCH 30TH AT 3PM AT Chuggers Blythewood. Gerry Delgado will provide his great music. All proceeds will go towards medical bills. Colton is off the ventilator and has been moved out of ICU. He is now in a regular room and is much improved. He has started physical therapy at hospital and was sitting up in a chair for about an hour today. He is elated to be out if the ICU gown and wearing sweat pants and a t-shirt today (a simple thing we often take for granted). He can talk using a valve over his trach and he was singing ready for love by Bad Co. to me earlier today in a very Darth Vaderish voice. His mind is sharp as ever and he has that Colton sense of humor. I walked in the room and he said Luke I am your father. I am thrilled that he can find humor with all he has been through. He can lift one hand up high in the air and likes to ask you for a high five, only a day ago he could only lift that hand a few inches off the bed and was saying hey dad how about a low five. He still cant move legs and minimal movement in his other arm. He has many things that he will have to gain strength to do like swallowing, standing, walking, and eye control but he will be going to rehab soon to work on those things. He has a long road ahead to recovery but a week ago he only had his eyes open and could not breath on his own or move anything more than his head. Doctors are amazed at his progress. The doctors, nurses, and all the staff here at MUSC have been caring, loving, and incredibly professional. They have treated us like friends and family. God bless them all!
