UPDATE!! The black lab mix who has been living outside in terrible conditions in North MS is now safe and WARM!! Now named Shadow, he is about 7 months old, weighs 42 pounds, and is as sweet and loving as can be. As we know, it takes a Village, and The Village could not stand the idea of this gorgeous dog freezing to death and living in terrible conditions. When his owner agreed to surrender him -- and with the temperature going down to 12 degrees last night -- plans were made to rescue him. Jennifier Neaves Westrich and Amanda Weatherford-Sawner spread the word about his dire situation; Jennifer made calls regarding vetting and boarding; Amanda put hay, cedar, and blankets in his caged area; and Lesley Takao with Perfect Match Animal Rescue (PM) offered to let us use her rescue discount for his vetting. When our best laid plans resulted in not being able to get Shadow to the vet yesterday, Shadow was facing another night outside in temps so low that he might not have survived the night. Then, Shadows angel on earth -- Stevie King -- decided that she would not let Shadow spend one more night outside! Stevie went out at 7:00 pm, picked up Shadow, and brought him to her home. Shadow spent last night inside a home for the first time in his life! He got along great with Stevies dogs, and he loved being snuggled and hugged by Stevie. He is gentle, somewhat tentative, and thoroughly sweet. Stevie took him to the vet today, and Shadow got all of his shots. Thankfully, he is HW negative!!! He has hookworms, for which he immediately received meds. He is now being boarded at Oak Tree Animal Clinic, where he will be neutered on Wednesday. Thanks to PM, the cost of Shadows vetting -- and boarding through next week -- is only $241. Because Shadow does not have a foster, he is not a PM dog -- although PM will take him into their rescue if he has a foster. I am sponsoring Shadows vetting/boarding. If anyone would like to contribute to his vetting/boarding, you can call Oak Tree directly at (662) 893-0880 and make a donation. Any amount is appreciated! More importantly, Shadow needs a foster, rescue, or forever home!! He is a beautiful dog, who is thrilled to be inside and to receive hugs and kisses. If you foster or adopt him, he will be your Shadow! Also, he is good with cats! Please SHARE Shadows story far and wide ... and please comment below -- or PM me -- if you know anyone who would like to give Shadow a home and family!
