UPDATE Watch and Act - State Mine Fire (Lithgow, Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains) 24/10/13 10:42 A bush fire continues to burn near the township of Bell and around the areas of Mt Irvine, McKellars Park, Bilpin, Hartley Vale, Dargan and Clarence. While fire activity is relatively benign at this stage, under strong winds conditions can change. Current Situation There is still active fire in area to the south of Hartley Vale (near Mt York) to the west of Lawsons Long Alley. There is also the potential for spot fires into the Grose Valley. Firefighters will be undertaking backburning operations if conditions allow. They are also identifying containment strategies for the North and North East side of the fire. The townships of Mt Tomah, Mt Irvine and Mt Wilson may experience smoke being blown across the Grose Valley under south-westerly winds from the fire at Mt Victoria. Areas that may come under threat are those communities along the Bells Line of Road, in particular Mt Tomah, Berambing and Bilpin. Residents in the Lithgow / Mt Victoria / Blue Mountains areas are urged to remain vigilant and be prepared to act. People across these fire affected areas that live in or near bush land should take the forecast conditions seriously, be on alert and complete a Bush Fire Survival Plan or review their current plan. A TOTAL FIRE BAN is in force for the Greater Sydney, Greater Hunter, Illawarra / Shoalhaven and Central Ranges areas until further notice. Advice Bells Line of Road Communities - People in communities along the Bells Line of Road should be aware that fire activity remains and people need to be vigilant. The Bells Line of Road between Bilpin and Lithgow is closed in both directions. Continue to monitor this website for further updates. Mt Wilson and Mt Irvine Communities - Residents are advised to remain in place. There is fire burning along access roads and it is not safe to leave. There is a high likelihood you may still be isolated for a number of days. Kurrajong, Bowen Mountain and Yarramundi Communities - Although the fire is not in the immediate area, residents should prepare their home and continue to monitor the situation. Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan and prepare for a bush fire in your area. If your plan is to leave, or you are not prepared, leave early.
