UPDATED: Students Visit Konan Community College KONAN CITY, Japan (COM-FSM News, July 2014) — Ten COM-FSM Students and one chaperone flew to Konan City, Japan to attend the Aichi Prefecture Konan Community College Student Exchange Program. The event is from June 30, 2014 to July 6, 2014. The students were welcomed by Konan City Mayor Motoshi Hori at the Konan City Hall, according to the President of the MicroJapan Student Organization Rico Rico “We were welcomed by the Mayor and staff of the City Hall with warm smiles and applause, flags of the FSM and Japan were waived everywhere. People were everywhere in the parking lots and even in the hallways at the entrance of the office greeting us,” says Rico. At the City hall conference room, the students introduced themselves. The mayor gave a welcoming speech and the chaperone (Ms. Magdalena Johnson) gave a speech on behalf of the group and thanked the Mayor for inviting and treating the students in such warm welcome. The students stayed with host families where they learned about each other’s cultures. Rico shared that “Our host families were very friendly and flexible to do everything. Every morning they dropped us off at the city hall and went back to their daily work. At five o’clock in the afternoon, they picked us up at the city hall and took us to places for bowling, karaoke, restaurants, and even to parks or temples to see and learn more of the Japanese culture and daily life styles”. The students visited schools and many historical places. According to Rico “this program gave me time to realize that life is very important and don’t take it for granted. We enjoyed a lot within that week but above anything else we learned a lot. This opportunity will be an asset for each of the members in the near future and it will very beneficial for both of the nations”. Konan city and the College have been active in sending exchange students to explore and learn each other’s cultures. An exchange group recently visited the College on March 2014. The students were led by the MicroJapan student organization President Rico Rico and Vice President Ryan Eliwise. Participants include Florianop Bonapart Jr, Jordan Ehsa, Pamela Fredrick, Kevin Jr. Kiyoshi, Kimberlyann John, Charles Johnson Jr., Relly Rico, Zoyal Sigrah, and their chaperone Magdalena Johnson.
