Last week we came to know that Kodak Cinelab, one of the finest film lab in the world based out of Mumbai, is shutting its shop and scraping away all the finest equipment’s to scrap dealers. Kodak Cinelab has processed some of the Oscar winning films and was the only surviving lab in India and among one of the three cinelabs in the entire world. As we received this news, we sprang into action and started to negotiate with the management and also floated an international cry to save the film lab from going to scrap. (https://facebook/savethefilmlegacy) After intense negotiation and dialog, the Kodak management has decided to Donate all the equipments to Goa-CAP. This is one of the finest moments in Film history and we are quite excited to create a COMMUNITY CINELAB for future film makers and enthusiasts. This is one of the historical events; Even though it may appear that ‘working with films’ is reducing in the world cinema, it is indeed in its resurgent state as more and more established film makers are choosing to work with analogue medium. There are 20 Hollywood movies, right from new bond to New Batman, which are using film. At this juncture, I humbly request your urgent support. In order to dismantle, transport and store this equipment in Goa, until its reinstallation, we would require an estimated sum of Rs.6,00,000/- We have hired an expert to dismantle and handle this process. Kodak has given a deadline to wind this up, latest within this week since they have to vacate the premises at the earliest possible, failing which they will have to pay for the rent and other utilities. We urgently request your support for this historical event as also to save the last surviving lab in India.
