URGENT PLEA from Passion 4 Paws in Dayville, CT - PLEASE SHARE!!! Dear Animal Rescue Friends, I am writing to you on behalf of Passion 4 Paws in Dayville, CT (passion4paws.org). Our rescue recently stumbled upon a catastrophic situation involving more than 100 cats and kittens in Danielson, CT. We initially raised just over $8,000 to pay for this rescue but the cats are all very sick from flea anemia and upper respiratory infections. Some have needed hospitalization, blood transfusions, and other specialized care well beyond what we originally thought. The money we raised is gone and we still have approximately 30 cats to rescue as well as spaying & neutering the majority of the cats already rescued because they are either still too young or too sick. This situation stems from one woman who fed all the stray cats on her property. The neighbors wrote letters to the Town Manager and complained to Animal Control about cats dying in their yards for over 3 years but nothing was ever done for them. We only discovered the situation in early July after one of our recently adopted cats escaped his new home around the corner from this womans house. When we went to hang Lost Cat posters and knock on doors to alert the neighbors that one of our cats was at large, our Shelter Director saw several cats in a yard around the corner and went to that home thinking he might show up there. What she found were cats & kittens dying in the yard and in the bushes. She grabbed as many as she could and rushed them to the vet and thats how we came to be involved. The 91 year old woman who was feeding the cats was living in squalor and didnt realize how sick the cats were. Now shes in the hospital in ICU and not expected to survive. The cats are doomed if we dont help them. We have been battling the neighbors who are fed up and have begun trapping cats on their own and relocating them to area farms. Unfortunately the cats are sick and unsprayed/neutered, so the problem will only continue if we dont close down the site by rescuing all of them. We have been in discussion with the town and animal control but as of now they are not helping us trap or pay for the vet care for the animals. We are desperate! We realize this is an endeavor better suited to a larger, better funded rescue organization, but so far none of our colleagues have stepped up to help us except for one other rescue who has donated some spay/neuter surgeries and flea/tick medications. Passion 4 Paws is a small rescue but we always do the right thing. Last year we conducted a similar 100+ cat rescue in Thompson, CT (although the Danielson cats are far more sick than last years group) and to date we have adopted out all of the cats but 3. WE CAN DO THIS WITH YOUR HELP! Please, we are out of money and nobody is accepting grant requests until later in the year. The flea infestation is so bad that we have been hand picking more than 200 fleas off of tiny kittens. Our vet bills are in the thousands. On top of all the emergency vet bills we have had to purchase additional Capstar, Drontal, and topical flea/tick medications for the other cats in our shelter just to combat the flea problem and additional cages to house the sick cats in. The good news is that all of these cats are friendly and highly adoptable. All we need is money to help pay for their vet care. Any amount will help! Please donate what you can and if you cant donate PLEASE SHARE this plea with your friends and family. Online donations can be made via PayPal at passion4paws.org/donate. Checks can be mailed to: Passion 4 Paws PO Box 791 Dayville, CT 06241 Thank you in advance for caring about these animals. Isabelle - the first cat rescued from the site!
