US News and World Report came out with a ranking of the best diets - TopicsExpress

US News and World Report came out with a ranking of the best diets recently. Youve probably seen the press. Its great that they have a whole category for plant-based diets, citing their healthfulness for the environment, your heart, your weight and your overall health. Its also great to attempt to sort through the confusion in the marketplace. But unfortunately the ranking doesnt come without challenge, in my opinion, turning what should be a scientific endeavor into an establishment popularity contest, with actual rankings based on what the rankers want to eat (the easy to follow rank). For example, the Ornish diet is the only diet of the whole lot shown to reverse heart disease, and is the #1 heart healthy diet, yet is only #9 of the best diets overall. The Engine 2 diet was greeted with much more skepticism, though reviewers remarkably dont seem to appreciate that the Engine 2 diet is essentially the same as the Ornish reversal diet. What do you think? Should we have rankings like this?
