US surveillance operation whistleblower Edward Snowden has left - TopicsExpress

US surveillance operation whistleblower Edward Snowden has left Hong Kong and has arrived in Russian capital Moscow. He may not stay there for long and could move to Cuba and from there to possibly either to Venezuela or Ecuador though it’s a bit difficult for the latter to keep two persons at the same time wanted by the US authorities. The US has put formal charges against Mr. Snowden of compromising national security by revealing secrets and that of theft of government properties. The best thing for the Obama administration is to offer pardon to Mr. Snowden, bring him back and then he facing the sentence-less trial in a Federal Court. For that the administration need to consult the Congress. The sentence-less trial would bring the truth and would not only help improve the performance of secretive agencies like, NSA but would also help the authorities in finding out the way to stop abuse by the authorities and those by activists. In all likelihood, Mr. Snowden would be found guilty by the jury and would be convicted without sentence. The US needs to understand the time very well and should understand changing consciousness, priorities and behavior of its people and those around the world with time. It needs to accommodate changes without compromising its ideals. The fact is that Mr. Snowden has made a blunder but he has also highlighted requirement for restraints and checks over the secretive national security operations. But he should be charged and tried, preferably after getting pardoned.
