USAID Engage Project / DAI Internship Program The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Leaders for Enhanced and Accelerated Development, Engagement and Responsibility (LEADER) Internship Program aims to provide young people from Mindanao’s conflict-affected communities an opportunity to avail of internships at the Executive Departments of the Government of the Philippines, which include the Department of Interior and Local Government - Local Government Academy (DILG-LGA), Department of Finance-Bureau of Local Government Finance (DOF-BLGF) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). The four-month internship program, which is being implemented by USAID’s Enhancing Governance, Accountability and Engagement (ENGAGE) Project, is an extensive and immersive experience in which participants will learn firsthand how policies and programs on local government operations, revenue administration and fund management are formulated and implemented, and at the same time, provide them with a deeper understanding on the proper and transparent utilization of government resources. The internship program will be open to recent college graduates of colleges and universities in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Zamboanga City, Isabela City and Cotabato City who have the potential to assume leadership positions in business and government within their respective communities. Qualifications to Apply LEADER INTERNSHIP: 1. Currently holding residency in ARMM or the cities of Zamboanga, Isabela and Cotabato 2. A Bachelor’s degree from any college or university in the ARMM, Region 9, or 12. A degree in Information Technology, Accountancy, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Political Science or Law will be an advantage; 3 .Not more than 29 years of age at the time of the internship; and 4. Willingness to share the knowledge and experience acquired during the internship to promote good governance and transparency, and upon return to his/her community, support a more participatory and accountable process in local government planning and budgeting, and project implementation Application Requirements (to be submitted in three sets): 1. Internship Application and Complete CV/Bio-data; 2. Certified true copy of official transcript of records from the college/university attended; 3. NBI and Police Clearances; 4. At least two letters of recommendation from current or former university faculty and/or individuals who have supervised the applicant in a work setting. (A third recommendation letter will be required if the applicant’s grade point average is below 2.5 or equivalent). At least one recommendation should come from a faculty member; and 5.Two essays focusing on “Goals” and “Governance Issues” and how the internship can help achieve these goals First Essay (400—500 words) “Why I want to be an intern and what I can contribute to promote transparency and accountability in my community.” Describe yourself, your goals in life, and your plans on how you can help your community. Second Essay (Approximately 1,000 words) Describe any governance-related issue prevailing in your community and how you think you can help address this issue. Very Important dates and deadlines: Deadline to accept application letter and requirements: January 15, 2015 Short listing of applicants: January 20, 2015 Interview of short listed applicants January 26-30, 2015 Inform accepted applicants January 30, 2015 Accepted applicants to go to MSU Marawi February 8, 2015 Start of Academic Training in MSU Marawi Feb 9 to 27, 2015 Interns to go to Manila February 28, 2015 Internship Proper in Manila February 28 to June 5, 2015 Successful Interns to return to Mindanao June 8, 2015
