Ugh. Here we go people, rant time. I gave 10 years of my life - TopicsExpress

Ugh. Here we go people, rant time. I gave 10 years of my life in the Pine Bush Central School District, moving out of state early in my sophomore year of HS. I was picked on, bullied, teased, and made fun of relentlessly for any number of reasons including being smart, being taller and overweight, being one who was quick to tears, having a name that was too easy to make fun of. Its called childhood. Kids will pick on other kids for whatever reason will get a rise out of them. This wonderful district, through Pakanasink, CVMS, and PBHS, while being very small town Americana, was full of kids from every race, creed, and nationality. One of my very good friends growing up was Jewish, I and several of my friends are Catholic, there were others who were Muslim, Hindi, Orthodox, and many other religions and never once do I recall hearing anti-Semitic taunts, or those against any other race or creed. These teachers, in hindsight grossly underpaid and understaffed by any standard, kept a good learning environment that I was able to thrive in academically, if not socially. In the last few months, and particularly due to whats going on with a certain NFL team right now, the spotlight has been shining on teasing, hazing, and bullying. People, these are parts of life. Every kid gets picked on for whatever reason will get a rise out of them, and my kid will probably be the same. Learning to deal with adversity, instead of just complaining about it to whoever is the authority, is part of what makes us stronger. It prepares us for the real world where failure is absolutely a real thing and no one will give you a paycheck for simply giving a good effort and doing your best. If its unsatisfactory to the task, you will fail. I failed in the emotional growing up part while excelling in academia. Took a while to catch up, but I think Im doing ok now. Pine Bush did a great job of preparing me for life. Shame on you, Mr. Cuomo for calling out a witch hunt without any basis of fact. Shame on you, New York Times and every other media center running this tale. This fits in your overall dialogue and will help you sell newspapers at the expense of everyone else in this town and community. Get a life. Get out of mine.
