Uh Oh Canada. Just back from Vancouver. Stayed at the Waterfront. The views are nice enough. Wandered through nearby Gastown which is a major tourist trap (they sell lots of Canadian kitsch, loads of maple syrup (sorry Howard Wolinsky no saskatoon berry products) and there are several chain restaurants). I kept wandering and wound up stepping into the East End on Hastings Street which was crowded with homeless and junkies. Seriously, even this San Francisco boy who has been in many, many Third World settings was stunned by the poverty and despair in Vancouvers East End. sequential-one/blog/?p=1795
