Ukraine: Odessa fire dead remembered by supporters The people of Odessa gathered for a memorial service on Saturday to remember demonstrators who were killed in violent clashes between anti- and pro-Kiev protesters at the Trade Union Building three months ago. Attendees displayed a poster with photographs of those lost in the violence, laid flowers at the permanent memorial at the front of the building and released black balloons reading, remember Odessa. The Kulikovo building, which remains barred from access and guarded around the clock, still sports smashed windows and fire damage from the 2nd of May riots. SOT Svetlana, Odessa local and organiser of the memorial event (Russian): Today we will let fly 48 balloons in memory of the people who died here. Also, there are very many people who are imprisoned. And they are in prisons because they are non-conformists, just because they think in a different way. Which means that today we have no democracy, no freedom of speech in Ukraine. And it is very painful because of the fact, that young men, old men in hopelessness fled to that building to escape, to save their lives; and they where just in a simply fascist way burned down. Similar actions took place today in Paris, Dublin, Rome, Brussels, Warsaw, Vienna, Sofia, and other European cities.
