Ultimately the race for Vancouver City Council Position 3 comes - TopicsExpress

Ultimately the race for Vancouver City Council Position 3 comes down to what type of leader you want to have on the governing body of our great city. I was at the Esther Short Neighborhood Association meeting last night, along with two of my opponents, Anne McEnerny-Ogle and the incumbent, Jeanne Harris. One of the citizens of that neighborhood asked the question about where we stood as candidates on the bridge, light rail, and tolls. Anne’s response included “Light rail was not my first choice. I preferred bus rapid transit, including Fourth Plain.” Jeanne’s response included “Three Senators killed the CRC. We listened to too many people for too long on this and we should have just done it.” In my opinion as a citizen, voter, and candidate, both of their responses do not reflect a representative form of government. This is supposed to be a government for the people, by the people. I honestly could care less what a candidate or incumbent’s “first choice” is. The real question is what is the voter’s choice, is it not? When it comes to the issue of light rail and bus rapid transit, the majority of voters have already made their voice known with a resounding NO. And when did we become a society in which listening to the people too much and for too long has become a bad thing? It’s time for a change in leadership—but more than that, it’s time for a change in the right direction. This is not about me or what I want, it is about you. I will be a City Councilman that values and listens to the voice of the people, strives to give the people a vote on the big issues (like the CRC), and abides by will of the majority.
