Ultrasound: _________ The application of high frequency sound - TopicsExpress

Ultrasound: _________ The application of high frequency sound waves (1-3 MHz), which produce thermal (continuous application) and non-thermal (pulsed) effects. Thermal effects increase local blood flow, non-thermal doses are thought to create mechanical and chemical effects that influence cellular permeability via cavitation and acoustic streaming. Frequency choice relates to the depth of the target tissue, 1MHz 2-5cm, 3MHz 1-2cm. The intensity and pulse ratio very depending on whether the injury is acute, sub-acute or chronic.
