Umatilla County Cattlemen’s Association Heifer Scholarship Program For the first time the Umatilla Cattlemen’s have created a heifer replacement program for the youth of the county to promote cattle breeding and production entrepreneurial projects. The qualifications are that youth be in the 5th through 10th grade and must have previously had a cattle project. Winning applicants must show the heifer for two years at the County Fair, be responsible for breeding and vaccinations and report twice annually at the Umatilla Cattlemen’s Annual Winter Meeting. This year the heifer was graciously donated by the Terry Hamby family, and halter broke by BMCC students. This year’s winner is a 6th grade student from Hermiston who is trying to increase her cattle herd from 1 cow/calf pair to being able to producer her own market steers and sell locker beef. She would like to get a college education and major in nursing or education. Please congratulate Macy Pearl Machado as the first heifer replacement scholarship winner.
