Umm Salamah and Maymuna were with the Messenger ﷺ when a blind man by the name of, Abdullah ibn Umm Makhtum entered the house. Because they knew he was blind, they didnt move behind a curtain. RasulAllaah said: Observe the Hijab from him. Umm Salamah asked: Ya rasulAllaah ! Isnt he blind ? He cant see us. He ﷺ replied: Are both of you blind as well? Cant you see him? Just like men have been commanded not to look at non- Mahram women, similarly women have been asked to abstain from looking at non-Mahram men. Its clear from the above hadith that women should avoid looking at men who are not lawful to them. Allaah says in Suratul Noor: ... Say to the believing men and women to LOWER THEIR GAZE.. #modesty
