Under Grace! But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. I Timothy 1:8-11 The law is for the lawless. Look at v.9 The law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless. Why? Because the law shows the lawless right from wrong, and makes their sins and their need of a savior known to them. The Apostle Paul refers to the law as a schoolmaster: Galatians 3:24-26 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:24-26 Schoolmaster is from a word ( which shortened) we get the word page. The schoolmaster was responsible for childrens safety, manners, and conduct; showing right from wrong the law is schoolmaster to those not in Christ. The Apostle Paul, first mentioned in Acts 7. The young man at whos feet the men who stoned Stephen laid their coats. His name was Saul, he was a student of Gamaliel a teacher of the law, and he was a Pharisee. Saul is zealous of the law, and a zealous persecutor of the church. So, he finds out there is a church in Damascus; he goes to the high priest and thinking he was doing great thing arresting whom he considers to be heretics, he gets warrants and heads to Damascus. Then in Acts 9 we read about Sauls meeting Jesus on the Road to Damascus, his conversion, and the change in his life: And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus:and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man:but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus:for, behold, he prayeth, And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way:for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my names sake. And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales:and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. Acts 9:1-20 God saw the zeal that Saul had for his Jewish faith, and God said He would use him as His chosen vessel to bare His name to the Gentiles, kings, and children of Israel. God then changed Saul to Paul, and the zeal Paul once had for destroying and persecuting the followers of Christ was now turned to preaching Christ, that He is the Son of God! As we read Pauls epistles, we see that he used the law to point out sin, to help people realize their need for a savior. Once, through the law, sin had been made evident, Paul then pointed to the cross. He made it known that one is reconciled to God by the blood of the cross of Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God. He showed us we are saved grace not of works. The law was not made for the righteous man, because the righteous man; the saved man has been to the cross and asked for forgiveness of sin. He is made the righteousness of God through Jesus Christ! He is no longer a slave to sin and the law; he is free from the law and is under grace! For sin shall not have dominion over you:for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? Romans 6:14-15 If any be Christ, their chains are gone! You are free from the law; free to live unto God. Those in Christ; ye saints of God rejoice! Grace, Grace! Gods grace; grace that can pardon and cleanse within! Grace, grace! Gods grace; grace that is greater than all our sins!
