Under Sindh Education Reform Project (SERP), 401 government schools have been merged into 98 campus schools while target of remodeling more 2748 educational institution of the metropolis has been set for financial year 2014-15. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, speaking at quarterly review meeting of SERP here on Friday, said that work was in progress in this regard in collaboration with SERP, department of Education, administration and other concerned quarters. He told that 17 schools working in a single compound in Liyari were merged in a campus and notification in this regard has been issued. These measures under SERP were aimed at enhancing quality of education, capacity building of educators and administrators and improving environment of government schools of the city, he said. The commissioner directed administrative officials to visit schools in their areas and submit detailed reports on closed or ghost schools along with requirements of working schools. The meeting was informed that the issue of opening of bank accounts of 200 schools under SME would be resolved by August 15 while steps were being taken to activate dormant accounts of 685 schools. World Bank representative Shafique-ur-Rehman Paracha told that SERP has accomplished targets of Karachi school improvement project 2013-14 that would prove helpful in achieving over all goals of the project.
