Undercover Agents Capture Craigslist Catfish Seller Chris Morran Consumerist June 29, 2013 People familiar with the newest definition of the term “catfish” might think that a story about catfish and Craigslist might involve some unlucky romantic being hoodwinked via the site’s personal ads, but this is a story where a Michigan man was arrested for attempting to sell actual catfish through the website. Earlier this week, agents for Michigan’s Wildlife Resources Protection Unit went undercover, responding to a posting on Craigslist from a Grand Rapids man who was selling 14 of the bottom-dwellers. According to the state’s Dept. of Natural Resources, if you want to selling game fish in Michigan, a fisherman needs a commercial fishing license. Violations of state laws are punishable by up to 90 days behind bars and fines between $250 and $1,000.
