Undercover Landscapes were engaged by Burton Contractors to undertake the environmentally sensitive works on the Bio Retention Basins at the new Bunnings Warehouse facility at Eastern Creek. The basins purpose is to filter all of the stormwater runoff from over 20,000m2 of shed roof and concrete carpark area before it enters the local stormwater system. The works comprised of the installation of sub surface drainage to two bio retention basins covering an area of approximately 5,000m2. This included Geofabric installation, header pipes and inspection outlets to each line and connection of the sub surface lines into the existing stormwater system. Following the drainage installation, over 1000m3 of 10mm washed gravel was carefully placed over the sub surface lines using positracks. Once this was installed and laser levelled to ensure uniform coverage of the drainage, approximately 3200m3 of certified Bio Retention Filter Material was installed. Again this was levelled with laser equipment to ensure uniform depth across the large area of the basins. Upon completion of the soil and drainage works, Undercover Landscapes installed over 32,000 native plants into the basins, which we were also entrusted to maintain for 12 months. Temporary Irrigation systems were employed on both basins enabling one man to easily water the whole areas as required. These are left in place for the duration of the maintenance.
