Understanding autistic children is why I bring awareness and advocate for our children. Each and everyone of them are different. People use to look and stare at us when Deontay had melt downs in public . A few times I was embarrassed and overwhelmed but then I began to research so I can have a better understanding to help my child and others. What we may think is easy, it may be one of hardest thing In the world for an autistic kid to do. Such as holidays thats the worst part for my son. He likes the idea of Christmas people coming over and food but you can only stay a short time and please dont make no noise. He gets a little aggressive and gets anxiety building up for the holiday. Some kids like new clothes, shoes etc. not him, truthfully he does not like things touching his body .Most people can put on socks my son havent wore a pair of socks since he was seven. Rain,sleet or snow. (The doctor says to him it seems like needles sticking to his skin). Autistic kids like routines, if i want to wash his hair or go somewhere I have to tell him a couple days in advance and keep talking to him about it everyday just to get him to cooperate. I am currently working on his social skills because he does not like to interact with others. Even if he have know you for years if you talk to him certain days he would look straight through you as if you havent said anything at all. I have to be careful with my wording with him. Some one said hi dear to him and he became angry thinking why would you call someone a four legged deer. Autistic children have a different wiring system but they are genius. Im just dropping a little knowledge on our lives living with an autistic child. Steppin4autism
