Unemployment: Youth Embarks On 40 Days Hunger Strike former Governor of Adamawa, Mr Boni Haruna The founder and national president of a youth movement, Youth Mountain of Hope in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chikeze Erege, has embarked on a forty days hunger strike to protest the growing rate of unemployment amongst youths in Abuja. Speaking to journalists, Erege, who staged a one-man protest at the National Assembly premises, yesterday, berated the federal government on the high level of corruption which he said has culminated in an alarming unemployment rate especially amongst the youths of the country. Erege called on government to sanitise the system by killing corruption at the corridors of power; from the top to the grassroots, saying that corruption remains the major predicament dodging national development in Nigeria. He also urged government at all levels to invest in agriculture by procuring modern equipment that improves productivity in the sector, saying it will encourage youths to go into mechanized farming and thereby earn a proper living and equally improve the growth of the economy. Speaking further on the hunger strike, the activist said he has gone without food for over 21 days already and believes that the government will give him attention before he ends the strike, adding that he was ready to die in his quest for justice if the government fails to take positive steps to rectify the anomaly.
