Unemployment is the source of militancy: M.M.Ansari *. Former Chief Information Commissioner and one of the members of the interlocutors panel, M.M.Ansari Thursday said that Hurriyat Conference is subservient to none and it can itself decide whether it should participate in elections or not. “It is irony that our political recommendationswere not implemented while the people of Kashmir had pinned so much hope on interlocutors,”Ansari told Srinagar based news gathering agency CNS adding that highly qualified youth of Kashmir join militant ranks because they are being deprived from employment. Ansari said that it would prove beneficial for the people of Kashmir if Hurriyat Conference will participate in elections. “No can suggest or compel Hurriyat to take part in elections. Hurriyat is an autonomous body and it can decide on its own whether it should participate in elections or not,” Ansari said adding that in democracy everyone has the right to take decision in free and peaceful atmosphere. Reacting on the reports that qualified youth are joining militant ranks, Ansari said it is all because of unemployment. “Thousands of youth after attaining degrees are jobless and there are no avenues for them. They aspire a lot and ultimately being motivated by militants to resort to stone pelting or to join their ranks,” he said adding once the government provides, no qualified youth will pick up the gun. Former interlocutor told CNS that people usually complain that there is no governance in the State. “People must participate in elections to elect a good government which will represent them in true sense and will address their problems. I believe that a free and fair election is the solution for the creation of conducive atmosphere,” he said. He lamented that the political recommendationspresented by interlocutors were not implemented. “If those recommendationswould be implemented that would have been a great leap in the way of resolving Kashmir issue,” he said.
