Unfortunately, there is no such thing as universal human rights. - TopicsExpress

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as universal human rights. No living creature has rights, only restrictions. Do you think the San Andres fault line recognizes the property rights of Californians? Does the sun recognize your right to protection by the FDA from companies making poor sun screen? Do all law enforcement agents recognize your right to assemble just because a piece of paper in some fancy building has words inscribed upon it saying it to be so? The existence of human rights is perhaps the biggest misconception of modern political philosophy. An individual only has rights up to the point to which he or she is willing and able to defend. Instead of understanding this and defending ourselves, we try to outsource defense of our rights to the state, and we end up with restrictions in the end. Well, the state doesnt have the right to grant me rights anymore than I have the right to take a shit on my neighbors front lawn. The grass on which I shit has no more rights than I. #LetTheDebateBegin
