Currently, UAP Group has twelve (12) businesses operating in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and is concluding a transaction to enter the Tanzania market. In order to execute its ambitious growth strategy, Union Insurance Rwanda Limited would like to recruit a dedicated team of ambitious, focused and high performing professionals for the following key roles UNDERWRITER-MEDICAL Reporting to Manager, Medical, and the Underwriter will ensure timely assessment of medical risks to determine terms to apply, prompt debiting of premium and preparation of underwriting documents thereby meeting the customers´ expectation and the Company´s objectives. Principal accountabilities • Assess and determine risk acceptance terms to ensure that quality business is accepted and retained; • Continuously monitor and review terms of accounts assigned; • Ensure timely and accurate debiting of premium and endorsements; • Ensure timely collection of premium; • Prepare renewal notices, ensure timely dispatch and follow up; • Prepare quotations in a timely manner to assist in business acquisition; • Assist in product development; • Check, authenticate and sign underwriting document to within the authority limit; • Maintain effective business relationships to ensure effective delivery of service. Qualifications and Skills • University Degree in Business, Economics, Actuarial Science or Statistics; • Progress towards ACII or equivalent; • Minimum 3 years´ experience in medical insurance underwriting; • Sound analytical and assessment skills; • Customer service oriented; • Assertive and self-driven; • Ability to work as a team and provide leadership; • Ability to work with minimum supervision; • Good negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills; • Good computer skills including proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
