Click here for more information HELP PROTECT POSTAL WORKERS The American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO (APWU) is asking for support on three pieces of legislation that are key to standing against the threats to the Postal Service. The Postal Service Protection Act (S-316/H.R. 630) would protect post offices by giving the Postal Regulatory Commission the authority to prevent post office closures, and allow the USPS to develop new products and services to help generate new sources of revenue. Click here for more information NEW APPRENTICESHIPS AVAILABLE WITH NYC DISTRICT COUNCIL OF CARPENTERS The New York City District Council of Carpenters Apprenticeship and Training Committee is conducting apprenticeship recruitment for carpenters, dockbuilders, and floorcoverers. Click here for more information TODAY IN LABOR HISTORY On this day in 1937, Congress passed the National Apprenticeship Act. The Act established a national advisory committee responsible for researching and drafting legislation designed to establish standards for apprenticeships. The law was later amended to allow the Department of Labor encourage the use of contracts in hiring and employment, and to issue regulations regarding the health, safety and general welfare of apprentices.
