Union leaders are in Victoria today calling on the BC government to raise the minimum wage to $13 an hour. Great plan. If you want to pay $5/litre for fuel + $50/can of soup + $50M for a 1bdrm condo (thats not in downtown Vancouver). At $10.25/hour the minimum wage is ADEQUATE and FAIR for our current economy. This is the wage paid to UNSKILLED & UNEDUCATED labour, and raising it any higher would put financial strain on many skilled labourers, and even worse, push more businesses into AUTOMATION. Would you rather have 100 jobs at $10.25/hr or 50 jobs at $13/hr AND 50 people sitting around collecting EI? NOTE - I do agree that the foreign worker program should be adjusted to stop companies bringing in cheap foreigners at the expense of BC workers.
