Unionism Vs work culture Work is worship when it is performed with dedication and honesty. It is the duty of every government employee to be just to his job, for which he is being paid. Every government employee is a public servant as they are being paid from the public exchequer. Employees cannot take always general public for a ride to press their demands whether genuine or otherwise. The nature of the job of a government employee is to serve public for which he is being paid a handsome salary. Employees have generally taken it as a right to take the salaries at the end of every month whether they perform any duty or not. They have a mindset that the government is bound to pay. Basically this thinking has made the government machinery a paralytic one. The mushroom growth of Trade Unions in each and every department has become a shelter for non- performing employees in particular and others in general. No doubt in every state employees have the right to project their demands, but they should not resort to hartals, strikes and lockouts every time. Cutting aside the winter and summer vacations, hartals and holidays, we have a limited calendar of working days not more than 180 days only to pursue the course of study of our children studying in government Schools. People who believe in hartalculture should keep in mind that they are axing the future of our younger generation by resorting to frequent lockouts. Government should also settle the employee’s just demands once for all to avoid the public inconvenience time and again. It should also make the administrative step-up effective to deal with the undue interference of the Unionism in administrative matters. Education and health departments are hyper sensitive and both are victims of unionism. Just like membership of political parties Trade Unions are distributing identity cards among their followers who misuse them by harassing their Officers and minting money. Hartalculture has affected the performance of our student’s community and the negative effect of this culture is visible on the ground. This has also affected the work culture in each and every office. It is the time for parents to unite, and come to the rescue of their wards and protect their future in this age of tremendous competition. Government should also take firm action and tighten the loose screws of administrative machinery to set the things right. Izhaar Kashmiri Feedback (socialworker43@gmail)
