University students will soon be able to order textbooks and have them delivered by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) within minutes. This is the first use of fully automated commercial drones in the world, according to the companies behind the service, Flirtey and Zookal. Students will use an app to order textbooks, pinpoint exactly where theyre standing and monitor the drone’s flight. The service will cost 10% of current shipping fees and takes as little as 2-3 minutes. Zookal will start with six sturdy hexacopters operating in the Sydney CBD. Test flights will begin in November and if they receive final approval from Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority, deliveries will start in March.
