Unlike ‘Sheep of Thesus’ (which was good but extremely manipulative), SHAHID is 100% honest film. It’s a must watch for India’s educated middle-upper-middle class people especially of majority community. Ye ‘Salim langade pe mat ro’ ka post-Babri sequel jaisa lagata hai. Superb lighting (although dinghy) thru out the film symbolizes the kind of life poor Muslims r forced to live in. Even the courtrooms r so gloomy suggesting depressing legal system as far as poor (and not just Muslims) are concerned. But but but all non-Muslim cast & crew finding this story compelling-enough to tell – itself suggests that at fringes it might have corroded but India’s secularism is still intact at the core. [BTW this film doesn’t deserve 4*s as most critics hv awarded. Most non-Muslim film critics might have given one extra * just out of guilt. But yes…it’s a must watch.]
