Unmarried Men & Women: The current state of your friendships is a clear indicator of whether or not you are ready for marriage. Evaluating your frienships is necessary and will help to determine if you have the capacity to become a husband or a wife. Here are some questions you may want to reflect on.....Does communication barriers exist in your friendships? Do you shut down and give your friends the "silent treatment" or go into isolation during times of disagreement or conflict? Are you fearful that someone else will "steal" your friend. Are your friendships one-sided? Is there mistrust or disloyalty in your friendships? Is it difficult for you to celebrate your friends or to be happy for them? Is your love for your friends based on what they are able to do for you? Are you confident in your friendships? Are you controlling? Have you learned how to reconcile with your friends? Are you reliable? Are you honest? Are you transparent? Do you have a habit of changing friends in each season of your life? Are your friendships lasting and fruitful? The evaluation process is not limited to these particular questions. If you have not learned to become a covenant friend, you have not learned the necessary skills to become a covenant keeping husband or wife. Although marriage is on a different level from friendship, one must learn to first become a good friend before becoming a good wife or husband (Dr. Matthew Stevenson). If you easily break covenant with those deemed as your friends, you are high risk for doing the same in your future marriage. On the other hand if you have not learned how to choose, keep, or learned why friendships are significant, marriage is not a option for you yet. It is imperative that you learn how to first become a good friend before saying I Do!
