Unquote: Who shot John? Betrayal of peoples mandate by defector: Lajim Published on: Thursday, November 07, 2013 Daily Express Newspapers. Kota Kinabalu: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Chairman Datuk Lajim Ukin said Information Chief Jeremmy Malajads action to quit the party to become an Independent but pro-Barisan Nasional Assemblyman was an act of betrayal of the mandate given to him by the people in Kadamaian in the recent election. He and other candidates in PKR, including me who won the seats in the GE13, were given the trust by the party not for the purpose of forming a government but to serve the rakyat. Malajads excuse for leaving the party is wanting to bring development to Kadamaian. What is he talking about? Kadamaian was still not developed under the then Parti Bersatu Sabah and Barisan Nasional government. So what actually does he mean by bringing development to Kadamaian by being a BN-friendly independent? he asked. Lajim said the Council also agreed to take firm action against the 50 party members in Kadamaian who followed Malajad. Lajim, who is also Klias Assemblyman, said this after chairing the State PKR Leadership Council meeting at its headquarters, Wednesday. Lajim also played down Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Amans claim that more from the PKR fold would be crossing over to the BN. Also present were State PKR Deputy Chairman Christina Liew, Secretary Datuk James Ghani, its treasurer Terence Siambun and other senior officials. Lajim also said PKR would propose that the top party leadership issue a showcause to its State vice-chief Jelani Hamdan for his recent claims which appear to have deviated from the partys struggle and agenda. He said no disciplinary action had been action against the Matunggong Assemblyman as Jelani had yet to announce if he was leaving the party. The State PKR Leadership Council agreed not to take action against Jelani although he made recent claims and statements that contradicted the partys agenda. Another reason is because he is still a party member and the vice-chief as he has yet to announce quitting the party. However, we decided to ask the central leadership of PKR to issue a showcause on why he should not be suspended or sacked, he said. Lajim said the current PKR Kota Marudu divisional chief Anthony Mandian has pledged his commitment not to leave the party contrary to what had been widely publicised in Facebook. He said Mandian admitted attending the meeting organised by Jelani under his capacity as the State partys vice chief. On a recent report in a Chinese paper here that Lajim promised to give Jelani the second highest post, Lajim denied making such promise to him. If Jelani truly thinks of the KDMs interest in the party, then he should agree when I suggested Datuk James Ghani as the deputy. But instead Jelani wanted to lobby for the second top post in the State PKR. However, I told him we could not have two KDM leaders as I am also a KDM leader who is a Muslim and appointing him as deputy and being a Muslim KDM leader would not be appropriate. This is because when a Muslim leader is the Chairman, then a non-Muslim must be appointed as the deputy and vice versa. If a non-Muslim is appointed as the Chairman then the deputy should be from the Muslims, he said, adding that Christina was appointed as the deputy of the State party based on her seniority and also being a YB. At the same time, he said, they have agreed to go down to the grassroots in Kadamaian and appointed Penampang MP Darrel Leiking to look after the division and explain the matter to over 5,000 PKR voters in the area. Malajad only has 50 people following him but there are about 6,000 voters who voted for him to win in the election. Hence, we will not waste these mass voters and continue to serve them, he said. Lajim said the Council and majority of the divisional heads have agreed to sign a resolution to continue supporting the leadership of the partys president Datin Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the Pakatan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said they have also signed a resolution where the divisional heads denied a recent claim by Jelani that his appointment (Lajim) as the State PKR Chairman did not get majority support from them.
