Up far too early, but its for a reason. For the last four years, Islington has had the best council I could wish for: first in the country to pay the living wage, introducing free school meals, one of the biggest social housing programmes in the country, a relentless focus on tackling injustice by holding the first fairness commission, holding the first equal marriage ceremony, and turning schools around to be some of the best country. All of this is despite 35% of their budget being cut by the Tory-led government and demographic difficulties (an ever-changing population and nearly half of all children growing up in poverty). That is why I joined the Labour Party and that is why Im up at 4am to try and get more Labour councillors elected in Islington. Its radical, exciting politics that actually makes a difference.
