Up late watching my wife and children sleep and remembering the day Lisa Peyton Caire and I celebrated her birthday together for the first time. It was March 24, 1992 and the sun was shining outside of the house I rented near Buckroe Beach in Hampton, Virginia, just one mile Hampton University where she was attending and where I would attend after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy three months later. It was the same day we officially acknowledged we were dating. I made her a tuna casserole, and a homemade bean pie with whipped cream and a cherry on top. We loved bean pies back then. We also listened and danced to jazz music. I still play these songs in the house all the time, frequently reminiscing about those days and remembering the great moments weve had together over our near 23 years together. One of my favorites by George Howard (RIP) is below. Also played Walter Beasleys Dianne https://youtube/watch?v=jW0o7gOXtZw, Kim Waterss Love Mode https://youtube/watch?v=AYrRBgMfJGw, Najees Stay https://youtube/watch?v=-3vRfnFhZ3o and All Ill Ever Ask (with Freddie Jackson) https://youtube/watch?v=SKaNwo4R3cA, Kenny Gs Songbird https://youtube/watch?v=QN2RnjFHmNY and Silhouette https://youtube/watch?v=5DkLTV0GccY, and a number of songs from our friend Gerald Albright, especially my favorite contemporary jazz song, Geralds So Amazing: https://youtube/watch?v=LGQEtyJ6nwg. Its the first jazz song I got into and the first song I played for Lisa that night, followed by George Howard. Wonderful memories. I wish more young men would play music like this and show our young ladies what real romance and courtship is like. Thank you Heymiss Progress for asking that question and taking me down memory lane and thank you Chuck Collins for getting me into jazz during our junior year of high school (1987).
