Upcoming Life Groups: Womans Bible Study facilitated by Debbie Carmichael Allred Class (Sanctuary level), 6:15-7:30 p.m. (7 weeks, no class on March 5) Hebrews: The Nearness of King Jesus Jesus is our accessible King. He is not a faraway God, but an up-close Redeemer who kneels beside us. Join us as we dig into Hebrews with Lisa Harper in this 7-session study. Hebrews reminds us that Jesus reigns supreme, but He also draws near to us with compassion, empathy and love to no end. The Book of Hebrews was a sermon for a specific people in the midst of persecution, but it is also so relevant for us today, reminding us to continue walking toward Jesus regardless of our culture or our circumstances. About Lisa Harper: Hilarious storyteller and theological scholar are rarely used to describe the same person, but Lisa Harper is anything but stereotypical! A gifted communicator, she writes and speaks using colorful pop culture references that connect the dots between the Bible era and modern life. Lisa holds a Masters of Theological Studies with honors from Covenant Seminary. Efird Bible Study facilitated by Jim Bohannon Bland Class (bottom level of Sanctuary Building) 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Jan. 29-May 14, no class on Mar. 5, Apr. 9 & 23) The Passion Narratives In this study of the Passion Narratives, Dr. James Mickey Efird will walk us through each of the four gospel accounts of Jesus betrayal, death and resurrection. We will study the gospels in chronological order: Mark, Luke, Matthew and John. The purpose of this study is to read each of the gospel accounts separately, recognize the similarities and differences in each, understand the basis for the differences in account, and gain a broader representation of the passion of Christ. About Mickey Efird: Mickey is an ordained Presbyterian (USA) minister and has served for more than 50 years as interim supply pastor for various churches. He began teaching in the Duke University Divinity School as a graduate student in 1958 and joined the faculty in 1962 and has since taught Greek and Biblical studies to generations of students. His commitment to making the Bible understandable and applicable for pastors and laity has led him to conducting hundreds of Bible studies at churches of many denominations throughout North Carolina and elsewhere. He lives in Durham and in his free time, Mickey and his family faithfully cheer on the Duke Blue Devils athletic teams.
