Update #6: Operation New Kidney. (Something Beautiful) Lisa has been moved from ICU and is now in a private room in the Kidney Transplant Center of Baptist Hospital. She continues to improve and were confident of her healing and restoration. Our room is next to Jennifers and we were able to visit for a while today. Jen walked over and as the two of them talked I sat back and listened and was reminded of our service in church this past Sunday morning. Our text was in Luke and we looked at the story of The Woman with the Issue of Blood. If you remember her story...she had been sick for 12 years and had spent all her resources on physicians who could bring no relief. An understanding of the time and culture informs us that the laws of Judaism declared her unclean. She had no life and hope was fading as sickness had invaded her body and taken her identity. Everyone has a story and Luke gives us much of her story, but he failed to give us a couple of details. First: I want to know her name. Secondly I want to know what she looked like? I wonder what was Lukes reason for omitting those details? I think Ive come to a conclusion. It may be a stretch, but for me...I think her name was Lisa and she looked a lot like my wife. Like that precious lady from the first century my wifes life has been interrupted by disease. She has carried it for eight years and the results have been debilitating. HOWEVER- Like that nameless lady from the first century my wife knew Jesus was and is much more than a carpenter. He is also The Good Shepherd and Great Physician. QUESTION? What does Jesus look like? We know his name and we know a few of the details about his family and the village where he grew up. We know he looked Jewish because he was Jewish and we know they plucked the beard from his face...but, other than that.....we have no idea what he looked like. We also know his post resurrection appearance was a little different. In other words.... John the Revelator described him and said His eyes were like flaming fire, His feet were like brace and His hair was white. I WONDER...WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE TODAY? Are you ready for another application that may be a bit of a stretch for some, but works well for me this evening? I think he looks a lot like Jennifer. In our experience she became the hands, feet and kidney of Jesus Christ and has given life to my wife. We shared this principal during service Sunday morning and to illustrate the point we brought Jen forward, sat her on a stool before the fellowship and said, this is what Jesus looks like for us in Lisas healing. Our church erupted in praise and applause giving God glory for great things he has done. Then the entire congregation moved forward and laid hands on Jennifer and prayed for she and Lisa. It was beautiful...and is beautiful... and from the ashes of an ugly fire God has brought forth something that can only be described as VERY BEAUTIFUL. Blessings, -Cam
