Update. Steering. 1) I installed the new standoff for the steering cable. It was a breeze. The plate in my boat had the 4 holes. I simply enlarged the forward-most top hole, installed post and clamped it all together. Silky!!!! Wish it was all like this. 2) Platform Hangers/Transom The incision into the floor was minimal and when I dug out the silicone, I was blessed with a rusty steel backing plate and rusty steel nuts on Stainless Steel bolts in the top two holes. The original SS lags were still in the bottom two holes on each side. I am so glad I went ahead and checked it out. I would have been doing all of this again in a few years or so had I not looked at it. Since the bottom holes are good and I had not noticed any problems with the platform prior, I am considering staying with a larger plate for only the top holes made from aluminum alloy, and using the present 3/8 SS bolts for the top with SS washers and SS nuts w/thread-lock. I will also change to a 3/8 SS Lag for the bottom for good measure. This is the plan for now. I will be open for suggestions. I might go ahead and make the cut like the last photo which is another MC owners repair done correctly. I will sleep on it. Yeah, thats probably what will happen.
