Update Susie. This little lady isnt quite ready to find her forever home yet due to her fear of other dogs still needing work however she is doing really well and has come such a long way especially in settling with her foster sister Anya whos now her best mate and play buddy! Susie will probably never be confident with unknown dogs and will need a confident experiened owner who will keep up her ongoing socialisation. Susie is walked regularly around other dogs and will settle down after initial introductions but is very scared when she first sees any new dogs. Susie came to us from a pound where she was close to being put to sleep after being there for 3 months with nowhere to go. I had been told she was dog friendly so got a big surprise when I brought her home to the 3 dogs I had here at the time! Back then it was hard to imagine her how she is today playing nicely with Anya. It took alot of time and perseverance but so worth it and proves she can get better with other dogs! Numerous people advised me to have Susie pts because of her issues but we wont give up on her. Susie is not an aggressive girl shes fearful reactive towards dogs she doesnt know. I imagine Susie was taken away from mum too early (she had no doggy social skills and couldnt read dogs whatsoever; submission etc) and probably kept alone as a shed dog only being taken out to be worked. This really isnt Susies fault and despite how scared she gets when out at home she is a happy, loving, sweet confident playful girl who I just love to bits. Susie really doesnt give a good impression around other dogs but at home and away from scary dogs she really is a sweetheart. Im confident that one day when the time is right the perfect person will come along and see past her issues and fall in love with her. Until then we will keep chipping away at her fear. Susie might be blocking the space of other dogs (as people keep pointing out) but I made a commitment to her like I do each dog I take and she is safe with me indefinitely so if that home never comes along she will stay here. Susie WILL NOT be put to sleep because shes fearful of dogs! If you see us out walking please just remember shes a mixed up little girl who reacts through fear and would be a different dog if people actually gave her chance to calm down and see theirs nothing to be scared of. Im confident in handling Susie and walk her on a ruffwear (escape proof) harness double leaded with a fishtail collar and wearing a muzzle so shes no risk to any dog!
