Update from ISL Belize: We have been having an awesome trip so far. Our first day here, we went to a restaurant right next to the sea and enjoyed our lunch after our long trip here. Once we got to the hotel, we unpacked and settled in and had dinner at Yesnias. On Monday we began our orientation and learned all about Belize and had an introduction to medical Spanish lecture. The highlights of Tuesday were going to the village in San Lazaro to hand out tickets for the clinic we would be holding on Wednesday. Afterward, we took a boat ride to Lamanai to see the Mayan ruins, which were amazing. Wednesday we spent all day at San Lazaro assessing patients and following them through the process of seeing the doctor, even preparing their medication for them to take home. Halfway through the day, we visited a Methodist school and taught ages 5-9 how to brush their teeth correctly. The past few days have been jam packed with a lot of amazing experiences and memories. We have learned so much about how people live here and the access to health care that they have. We are also extremely lucky to have Juliet, Javier and Dr. Riverol to help us through the process here. They have been like our family away from home. Enjoy the pictures!
