**Update on Coding club** Email from Shell at The Gazelle STEM centre, NHC............... ..Hello Lovely Home Educating People! I am contacting you today as this summer has demonstrated a lot of interest in our after school clubs. As members of our mailing list you get to hear about them first! As member of our local Home Educators groups I am letting you know about these sessions as we were hoping to set up corresponding activities for you on the days when we run your science activities. At that time we were looking at a time table of once per half term. With the increased frequency of our sessions, I am afraid that it is taking a little longer for me to find the support to set up these sessions, so I am offering you the opportunity to participate in the after school clubs, should you wish to. I am hoping that we will be able to offer you Pi and Coding sessions, on a weekly basis, linked to our Friday sessions, as of January. Please watch this space for more information, and don’t forget to sign up for our Friday Science Club, starting 12th September! After School Clubs Due to demand STEM Centre will be resuming it’s after schools clubs as of Tuesday 16th September. Every Tuesday, 4.15 – 6.15pm we will be running Raspberry Pi Club, for 9 – 14yrs old. For the Autumn term this session will be free, however as of January we will be including a Minecraft element and due to the cost of materials will be making a charge. Children aged 9- 14yrs are invited to bring along their Raspberry Pi to this practical session and learn basic programming skills. The session is guided by experts so no experience is necessary. Raspberry Pi is a credit card sized computer that plugs into a monitor and keyboard, and are a fantastic way for young people to learn about computer science. (Don’t worry if you haven’t got your own Raspberry Pi, we have some available at the STEM Centre). Our resources are limited though, so we do ask that you book in advance to ensure a place. To book a place or request more information call or email the STEM Team on 01462 443 050 or [email protected] , providing us with the name of your child, a contact number & email and the dates that you would like to book for and we will complete the booking procedure and send you an email to confirm your place. As of Thursday 18th September, 4.15 – 5.15pm we will be running Code Club, for 9 – 11yrs old. As this club forms part of a nationwide network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs for children aged 9 - 11 years, it is Free of Charge. The projects will teach children how to program using scratch and Python software in the STEM Centre computer suite. Children will be shown how to make computer games, animations, and websites. Code Club is all about having fun and learning through exploration. To book a place or request more information call or email the STEM Team on 01462 443 050 or [email protected] , providing us with the name of your child, a contact number & email and the dates that you would like to book for and we will complete the booking procedure and send you an email to confirm your place. Please feel free to share this information with friends, if you think that it will be of interest to them. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Kind Regards Shell Shell Fearn STEM Centre Coordinator cid:[email protected]
