Update on Ebola Scare: Authorities urge malawians not to panic. Health authorities say the unprecedented screening of 244 people travelling in a ship and a boat that took place in Nkhata Bay last night has shown negative results. At a press conference earlier today, District Heath Officer for Nkhata Bay Dr. Albert Mkandawire urged Malawians not to panic over the alert, saying results of the intensive screening were a sigh of relief. The authorities in Nkhata Bay launched mandatory Ebola screening on all passengers disembarking from boats and vessels following reports that two Malawians travelling from Mozambique last night showed signs of Ebola. The alert was reportedly sent by health authorities in Mozambique. Our reporter Masozi Kasambara says the screening that took place Saturday night brought anxiety among residents of Nkhata Bay as no such exercise has been undertaken since the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
