Update on Jasmine and Kodi. Both are back at my place and are doing well. In fact, Jasmine immediately begged for food and dug right in. She ate the entire can even licking the bowl clean when she was done. I want to send out a BIG thank you to Dr Raj and the wonderful techs and assistants at Beaver Creek Animal Hospital. In fact I think I am going to send something to the clinic because I just dont think a thank you cuts it. Dr Raj and his team spent 2.5 hours today working on Jasmine. It wasnt as easy as he thought it would be given the fact that there were three wires, none of which would come out easily. He had to make extra incisions to individually cut and remove each piece. He also removed all of the teeth on the one side and cleaned up her mouth. Dental and regular X-rays were done before to get a better idea of what he had to do and after to ensure the wire and teeth fragments were all removed. They spent just as much time and provided her with just as much care as any other patient even though they knew they likely would never even see her again. They also charged us only a small fraction of what this surgery would have cost anywhere else. We were not even charged anything for the X-rays - not any of them. The total for Jasmine was $452.14 plus pain meds and antibiotics. What do you think would be a nice thing to do or send to the clinic to say thank you? Okay so as you can see from the first photo, Jasmines jaw bone on the side her teeth were removed is badly infected. She needs to be on Antirobe for another four weeks. She is also on pain medication for five days because she is going to be in a lot of pain! Kodi is home and resting. He did well however the barking collar we put on him some how caused pyoderma (skin infection). The prongs dug into his skin and the collar wasnt even on tight!!! The vet feels it looks like pressure wounds. The area was shaved and cleaned and we are having to put on antibiotic/steroid cream and if not getting better in a day or two, he will need antibiotics. I feel terrible about this because I had no idea. My vet said that it could have happened even yesterday because this type of thing gets bad quick. She said they saw it while he was on the exam table during surgery. He was wearing two collars so we are wondering if the one collar went over the other and caused the problem. Kodi is on pain medication for five days instead of the normal 3 because of the pyoderma. It helps with inflammation. He is doing okay though and is excited to be back. Thanks again so much to everyone for their kindness, support and donations. None of this could have been done without you!!
