Update on Julie Mark Jorgensen Never once did her fortitude waver during that long illness. British Dictionary definitions for fortitudeExpand fortitude /ˈfɔːtɪˌtjuːd/ noun 1. strength and firmness of mind; resolute endurance Word Origin and History for fortitudeExpand n. early 15c., from Middle French fortitude, from Latin fortitudo strength, force, firmness, from fortis strong, brave I think this describes Julies amazing journey that she has already made, and what she has still left to go through. She has remained stable today after her lung procedure. They plan on switching her from the ECMO machine in the morning over to a continuous ventricle assist device. They will be going in the right side of her chest into the right side of her heart and then in her left leg to go to the left side of her heart. This machine will have her heart doing more work and start making the heart muscles work. This is important because the heart like any other muscle needs to be exercised and used or it could not remember what it is supposed to do. So getting it working and moving again is needed. And we all know how Julie LOVES to exercise, so this is her heart exercising. This process is stimulating her ventricles to contract. They will need to repair her veins in her legs where they had the ECMO machine hooked up. There was a tube in each leg for this. They are going to do the procedure at 7:30 AM as of now, as long as she stays stable all night. They did not say how long the process will take but I will update you as soon as I hear. On a very bright note, Mark had a very special visitor today. The conversation started out -- HEY, this can be beat, I am living proof This was a man named Michael Crowe. I had heard about him when I was over to visit Julie and I had read his caring bridge sight from beginning to end and it filled me with much hope. Mark and Michael sat and talked for over a 1/2 hour today. This was very uplifting for Mark as Michael is a man in his early 20s and a pharmacy student over there He went through all this 2 years ago. He was able to explain things to Mark and most importantly, show that this is not a losing battle. There is a long way for Julie to go, but there are many prayers and God is on her side. So prayer warriors lets gather together on this battle and get it done!
