Update on Scotty. His surgery was 11 days ago, and he continues to do well. We are cleared to put him back to work ( just nothing extreme ) so I did saddle him yesterday for one of his lunging sessions ( were lunging or ponying him lightly three times a day to keep him moving, dont want to turn him out yet so as to not let him roll and get debris in the surgical site ) He seemed happy to be saddled, and I did hop up on him for just a minute. I am very grateful and thankful to Dr.s Emily Bold and Ann DeNaples for saving the life of this lovely young gelding. Update on the 7 year old mare that Ken Williams and I went to pick up eight weeks ago. The one who had never been able to be caught, who had always been very aggressive towards both her own dam and towards any people or animals that came into her paddock. The one who sent packing the five previous trainers that the owner had hired to try to catch her. The one who squeals and squirts pee and bites and strikes and kicks at anyone who approaches her on some days, and who is simply unpleasant or indifferent on other days. Turns out that she is a he/she. :( This poor hermaphrodite mare is simply so unhappy in her own skin. And with her being 7 already before being handled and having her problem diagnosed, we are not sure what her outcome will be. There are days ( more like moments ) that I can see a sweet, loveable mare inside of her, but more often I see dead eyes and unhappiness. :( This is the first time that I have encountered what I truly perceive to be two totally different personalities inside of a horse.
